We have an urgent need for some assistance with a remote firewall running pfsense (which is based on FreeBSD). If anyone is able to help can you please contact me off-list ASAP (and of course SMX is willing to pay :)). ( http://catalyst.net.nz/services/support ). I'm almost certain they support FreeBSD - anyway, they're the one that springs to my mind... :-) I'm almost half-tempted to put my own hand up, but my pf knowledge is limited to rulesets - that is, my own (home) pf ruleset. I imagine I'd be really lost trying to sort out a remote one (if a ruleset is even the problem). Good luck! - Andy From thomh at smx.co.nz Tue Jun 10 09:53:44 2008 From: thomh at smx.co.nz (Thom Hooker) Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2008 20:53:44 +1200 Subject: [nzfug-general] local freebsd support In-Reply-To: <484E2B3F.90807@paradise.net.nz> References: <484DC742.6000201@smx.co.nz> <484E2B3F.90807@paradise.net.nz> Message-ID: <484E4118.5010404@smx.co.nz> Andy Elvey wrote: > Thom Hooker wrote: >> Hello >> >> Is there anyone on this list who offers local FreeBSD support? Just FYI (and the list for those who care :)) we have a couple of IBM HS21 blades that we're trying to install pfsense 1.2 on. pfsense installs fine but it fails to detect the Broadcom 5708S-based NICs in the blades during the NIC detection phase. Now I know that this chipset has been supported in FreeBSD since 2005 via the bce module but I'm assuming that these blades contain a newer revision of the chipset which causes pfsense to not detect them? Anyway, what I'm after is someone who can help us install either a newer version of the bce module onto the existing pfsense install, or who can provide some other way of getting pfsense on these boxen. If we can't we'll prolly have to look at getting some other hardware in in their place. I've had various suggestions to get down and dirty with cvsup but this a little beyond our abilities given the time frames and lack of experience with FreeBSD. Any assistance gratefully accepted :) Cheers Thom -- *Thom Hooker *| Director of Operations *Office:* +64 9 302 0515 (ext 502) *Fax:* +64 9 302 0518 *Mobile:* +64 27 258 8973 *Freephone:* 0800 SMX SMX (769 769) Level 11, 290 Queen Street, Auckland, New Zealand | SMX Ltd | smx.co.nz SMX | Business Email Specialists The information contained in this email and any attachments is confidential. There was typo in bce driver which prevented to detect 5708S nics and was fixed in 6.3 release > Anyway, what I'm after is someone who can help us install either a newer > version of the bce module onto the existing pfsense install, or who can > provide some other way of getting pfsense on these boxen. You need only change one line in bce driver from BCM5708 to BCM5708S and it will work :)) or give a try to FreeBSD-6.3 pfsense
